My husband, Sid, and I both teach history in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Sid was awarded a Fulbright lectureship in Japan for the 2010-2011 academic year and so we are moving to Japan with our two (reluctant) boys. :)
So, maybe you mentioned this previously, but is this an "American" part of town--I'm noticing the banners in English? And have you seen/heard any references to Haruki Murakami (one of my favorite authors)?
It's not the American part of town, but it is the rich part of town. I don't know if you can see the stores in the picture, but the street is lined with Dolce and Gabanna, Ralph Lauren, Berberry, and Chanel. Usually there are numerous Japanese flags flying all along the street. If you go further down the street, though, you hit Condomania and the like. I have not heard references to the author, but then people just sort of talk around me since I speak very little (skoshy) Japanese! :)
